FLVT Performing Arts (School Musical):
We are extremely excited to be bringing Shrek the Musical to the Yates stage on May 5 and 6, 2026. Our school musical is for students in grades 7-9 and is an auditioned program that requires both in class rehearsals that take place during the option timeslot in Quarter 2 and 3, as well as after school rehearsals from November-May. All students that audition are guaranteed a part in the show!
Are you interested in joining this year’s production of Shrek the Musical? Auditions will take place on September 22 from 5:00-7:00, September 24 from 4:00-6:00 and September 25 from 4:00-6:00. Students are required to sign up for an audition timeslot with Ms. Beaulac or Mrs. Larsen. Please note that all students that participate in the production on stage are required to register for the option class as well in which we learn the music, acting and choreography for the musical!
We have a rich history of fantastic productions at our school, and are excited for you to help us continue building our program! If you are interested in helping backstage through building sets and props, or working as stagehands at the show, please consider joining our crew! If you have any questions, please see Ms. Beaulac or Mrs. Larsen.
Please consult the Co-Curricular Calendar for the rehearsal schedule! It will be updated regularly.
Choir Progam:
NEW THIS YEAR! 3 CHOIRS!
At FLVT, we have a strong choral program that consists of three choirs:
Lower Elementary Choir is for grades 1-3 students interested in exploring their voices and expanding their musicality. Rehearsals are on Fridays from 11:30-12:30 from September 19th until December 12th. They will learn a variety of Christmas songs to share with our community through a caroling tour in December, as well as a song to perform at the Year-End Choir Concert in early June. Other opportunities may come up as the year progresses, stay tuned!
Upper Elementary Choir is for grades 4-6 students that are eager to collaborate with other musicians through vocal exploration. Rehearsals are on Fridays from 11:30-12:30 from January 9th until June 5th. They will learn several different songs of different genres to perform at the Lethbridge Music and Speech Festival in April, as well as the Year-End Choir Concert in early June. They will also have the opportunity to sing O Canada at the Lethbridge Hurricanes Game! Other opportunities may come up as the year progresses, stay tuned!
Junior High Choir is for grades 7-9 students that are passionate about music making and connecting with others through music. Rehearsals for this choir occur in the option class timeslot in Quarters 2 and 3. This choir will have the opportunity to go on a Music Retreat to Banff in the spring, as well as perform at the Year-End Choir Concert in early June. They will also be featured in the Fine Arts Gala in the spring. Other opportunities may come up as the year progresses, stay tuned!
Guitar Program (Options):
FLVT is lucky to have a thriving guitar program in which junior high students are able to learn to play guitar in a group setting. We offer two courses, Guitar 7 and Guitar 8/9.
Guitar 7 is an introductory course, perfect for the student who has never picked up a guitar, but has always wanted to give it a try. Students will be introduced to beginning guitar fundamentals, including basic chords, scales and proper playing techniques. Guitar 7 is offered in Quarter 1 and 4.
Guitar 8/9 expands upon what was taught in Guitar 7, and dives deeper into the technicalities of guitar playing. Students will have the opportunity to expand their musical knowledge across various genres, from rock and roll to classical. Students will have the opportunity to play in a band format with their peers to ensure they feel like true rock stars!
Both guitar options will have the opportunity to perform at this years Fine Arts Gala!
Elementary Music Classes (Grades 1-6):
We are very fortunate to have all of our elementary students from grades 1-6 participate in music classes twice a week. Students will explore their musicality through a variety of means, including singing, playing, creating, listening and moving. They will play several instruments, sing songs, and participate in various music games to grow as musicians in a joy-filled environment. We strive to ensure that music classes feel like a safe environment for students to experiment and explore their musicality, regardless of previous experience or ability.
